short-term to meet users’ needs. The enterprises which manage web-sites need to save the cost of development of web-sites and to satisfy users. The analysis of cases in the development of web-sites shows two crucial and common problems. First, there are likely to be redundant and inefficient investments because the processes of the development, management, and operation of web-sites are not standardized. Second, the inconsistency in web-designs may result in many problems when users operate it, which eventually decrease usability. It may be the most effective solution for the problems to refer to web style guides in order to save the cost and enhance the usability. Good web style guides have common features as following: first, they maximize efficiency in the development of web-sites; second, they enhance consistency as well as efficiency in their management and operation; and third, as a result, these effects help their users' convenient use of the web-sites. The elements such as layout, font size, space between lines, color, and so on, which are suggested in web-style guides should be deliberately considered in the development of web-style guides because they affect cognitive capacity and usability. Web-site styles will show their various features according to the computing and Internet environment, characteristics of web-sites, and the characteristics of main users. As this dissertation explores, it must be effective for designers engaged in development of web-sites to pay note to the useful resources coming from adjacent sciences and try to utilize them.
