초록

" In this globalizing age of the world, renewed and comprehensive concepts of tourism is being required in the field of tourism as well as in every other aspects of the social phenomena. Routine ways of tourism only to visit historical sites enjoying special foods can no longer attract tourists with diversified needs to fulfill their curiosities. Among others, culture tourism has already been proved to some degree to satisfy tourists' more advanced and diversified needs. It can be suggested that mural paintings be in this ground, as a strong means of enhancing cultural tourism. Culture is the product of a specific society in which people share similar values, similar ideas, and similar ways of behavior. And understanding other cultures has already been highlighted in attracting diversified needs of tourists. To survive and to be competitive in the tourism market, more extended and detailed cultivation in this field of culture tourism has been seriously developed. And mural paintings might open a new horizon to accelerate a competitive tourism. The mural paintings as an artistic genre which can satisfy such cultural characteristics have enough potential to be developed into the resources of the cultural tourism. There is an example that the work of the mural paintings, which is highlighted with the biggest outdoor gallery on earth, based on history and tradition of the city changed the dull image of the city to be culturally attractive. Mural paintings impling cultural images representing history and tradition of the specific place would be sure to raise emotional sympathy and unity of the citizen, thereby contributing to an efficient tourism and strengthened pride of their city. Advanced countries have already witnessed the necessity of the new economic development based on the service industry and started to develop cultural industry. In the age of cultural competition, it is highly required to be distinctive and different from other cultures. From this standpoint, this study lay its heavy focus on differentiation between mural paintings based on culture as a new resource of cultural tourism. Unfortunately, Korea has not yet witnessed any example for the purpose of cultural tourism. This study, in this respect, is desired to be a guide to enhance a more developed type of tourism to satisfy diversified expectations of the tourists, thus surviving in the tough international tourism market.
